On the Twenty-Fourth Sunday After Pentecost (November 19, 2017), the Cebuano Summorum Pontificum Society will be offering an Extraordinary Form Sung Mass (Missa cantata) at 4 p.m. at the Adoration Chapel of the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish (Capitol Parish) Church along N. Escario Street, Cebu City. All faithful Roman Catholics are invited to assist at the Mass.
The Holy Sacrifice will be sung by Msgr. Joseph Tan, media liaison of the Archdiocese of Cebu, who will be assisted in music by the Schola Gregoriana of Cebu.
Although this Sunday is the twenty-fourth after Pentecost, the Mass of the Sixth Sunday After Epiphany will be offered, since the formulary of the Mass of the Twenty-Fourth Sunday After Pentecost in the Roman Missal is reserved for the Last Sunday After Pentecost. So, if you bring your own hand missal, set the ribbon accordingly to the Propers of the Sixth Sunday After Epiphany.
At 3:15 p.m., the Society will be praying in Latin the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the most esteemed among the numerous Catholic devotions.
Right after the Rosary, the Society will be chanting in Latin the Office of None (Mid-Afternoon Prayer) of the Divine Office (in the Ordinary Form), which is also known as the Liturgy of the Hours. The Divine Office is liturgical prayer, and, as such, belongs to the official public worship of the Church. Every liturgical celebration such as the Mass and the Divine Office—in contrast to devotions such as the Rosary—is
“an exercise of the priestly office of Jesus Christ…an action of Christ the Priest and of his Body, which is the Church,…a sacred action surpassing all others. No other action of the Church can equal its efficacy by the same title and to the same degree.” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 7)
Please come early so you can pray the Rosary and the Divine Office with us.
Remember to go to Confession beforehand so that you can worthily receive Holy Communion.
See you on Sunday. Bring your family and friends.
