Extraordinary Form Sung Mass of the 8th Sunday After Pentecost

The Cebuano Summorum Pontificum Society invites all faithful Roman Catholics in the Archdiocese of Cebu to the Missa cantata (Sung Mass) of the 8th Sunday After Pentecost at 10:00 A.M. this Sunday, July 30, 2017, at the Adoration Chapel of the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish (Capitol Parish) Church along N. Escario Street, Cebu City.

The Mass will be sung by Cebu Archdiocesan Media Liaison Officer Msgr. Joseph Tan and the Schola Gregoriana of Cebu.

A Mass is called a “Sung Mass” when the celebrant actually sings those parts which the rubrics require to be sung (Rubric No. 271, Codex Rubricarum).

Meanwhile, the Schola Gregoriana of Cebu, the schola cantorum (“school of singers”), in singing the Propers of the Mass and the Sung Ordinary, is performing a “direct but delegated ministerial service” (cf., No. 93c, De Musica Sacra et Sacra Liturgia). In so doing, it is actually praying/singing the Mass itself rather than just singing at Mass.  The cantors, therefore, are liturgical ministers who pray (through chant) those parts of the liturgical texts of the Mass assigned to it.

It would be truly awesome if you could sing together with the Schola the Sung Ordinary of the Mass, especially the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus. The YouTube videos below can help you learn these chants. Also included is a recording of the solemn tone of the Salve Regina, which, after the Mass, we shall be singing in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
